The Thing About Love

Sep 5, 2025
1 min read

The thing is…

I think I could have really loved you,

And I think if we had allowed ourselves the possibility of that feeling

I would have loved you in a way that no one has ever loved anyone before,

And I think somewhere, deep down inside… you know that to be true…

And maybe that’s why you held on a little longer than you should.

I don’t know why, but there’s a part of me that still feels as though part of my purpose

is to give you the love, respect, and comfort you deserve,

And I think maybe that’s why I held on a little longer than I should,

And why, though time has passed and what we had has faded away,

there’s never really been a “goodbye”.

Whether young or old, blind or true,

It endures and abandons the rules of time…

I guess that’s the thing about real love…

It actually never dies
